Why are flexible packaging careers important?

The flexible packaging and flexographic printing industry is a growing and stable industry; in fact, flexible packaging is a Critical Infrastructure Industry as defined by the United States Department of Homeland Security: https://www.cisa.gov. This term, used by governments across the world, describes business and industries that are essential for the functioning of a society and its economy.

Poly Print falls into this category because our core market is food packaging, which plays a vital role in the food supply chain.  Packaging is actually considered an “ingredient” of packaged food products in the sense that without it, food manufacturers and suppliers could not package, protect, and preserve their products or deliver them to stores and consumers across the country.

Many manufacturing industries, ranging from food to industrial chemicals to household products, have recognized the numerous benefits that flexible packaging offers, spurring the industry’s growth and leading experts to project continued growth for many years to come.

Below are interesting facts and industry statistics provided by the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), a trusted advocate for the packaging industry:

  • The flexible packaging industry has combined sales in excess of $30 billion annually, and its average annual growth is projected to be 5-7%.
  • Flexible packaging is the second-largest packaging segment in the United States and represents about 19% of the total packaging market.
  • The United States flexible packaging industry employs approximately 79,000 people.
  • Food is the largest market for flexible packaging and makes up approximately 59% of the overall market.
